FLED/DiveCenter @ Panguil bay bridge construction
February 18, 2022, underwater / on-water works, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental and Municipality of Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

The FLEDDiveCenter team have started work on the site, February 18 with Tusong Construction Philippines Inc. We're installing steel casings for Pylons. As of this writings - Pylons 1 and 2 on Pier 1 and Pier 2. There are about 54 casings to be installed, covering both underwater and above-the-water works.

Panguil Bridge Project

The Panguil Bay bridge project is about 6.4 billion pesos connecting Tangub City, Misamis Occidental to Municipality of Tubod, Lanao del Norte. The main bridge has a length of 320m *85+150+85) with a width of 15.5m. Using an extra-dosed type with the balanced cantilever method with two travel lanes.

The balanced cantilever method of bridge construction are used for bridges with few spans. The bridge can be either cast-in-place or precast. The method is to attach the segments in an alternate manner at opposite ends of cantilevers supported by piers. This is adaptable to irregular and long span lengths, rough and water terrain, rail crossings, and environmentally sensitive areas. It is  suitable for building cable-stayed bridges, because once segments are placed, they will be supported by new cable-stays in each erection stage, and no auxiliary supports are required, and it is both economical and practical method for cable-stayed bridges.

The approach bridge of Panguil bay bridge, has a length of 1920m 17@60m/15@60m) with a width of 13.0~15.5m. Using Prestressed concrete (PSC) box girder with incremental launching method with two  travel lanes. Prestressed concrete box girders are concrete sections forming a boxed shape (rectangular or trapezoidal) supported by prestressed strands. The approach road section of the bridge has a length of 929m, width of 12m; Tangub side is 320, while Tubod side is 569m, design for speed of 60km/h on two travel lanes. Total length is 3169m, bridge 2240m+approach road 929m.

The travel time will be shortened to 7 minutes from 2 hours and 50 minutes without the ferry.

The earthwork construction involves the installation of incremental launching method (ILM) yard for bridge manufacturing at each end of the bridge. On the area where the water depth is shallow, a temporary embankment will be constructed towards the offshore direction for the construction of the bridge pier. On the area where the water depth is deep, marine vessels are utilized. Steel casings are embedded through reverse circulation drill (RCD) method to excavate to the bedrock and then a re-bar will be inserted into the casing. After which concrete is poured into the substructure of several pier bridge.

On the approach bridge on both Tangub and Tubod side, an island method that pushes the box type concrete girder.

The main bridge is an extra-dosed two pylons with a span length of 150m, wide enough for ships to safely navigate.

The tower of the bridge was design so that folks on the nearby areas will adorn images of festival, a landmark that represent Panguil bay.

Sample of bridge Pylon

The main superstructure will be constructed by free cantilever method, the main girders will be cast by segments that travels on both side of the pylons, to maintain safety and balance in construction.

Stay cables that run directly from pylons, supports the main bridge deck, will be composed of steel wire packed in 15.7mm-50 strands protected by high-density polyethylene pipe. The ILM-constructed approach bridge and FCM-constructed main bridge superstructure will connect at pier no. 17 and pier no. 18, linking the entire bridge.

The top plate of the bridge will be constructed with incremental launching method (ILM) that pushes each segment of box type concrete girder manufactured from casting bed with special extrusion equipment.

Just wait when we finish the job.
