FDC-MPC Nov 2024 Marine Buoys Intake and Discharge Area Maintenance and Installation.
On 25th of January 2024, FLED/Dive Center undertake both low and high tide inspection of the site. This is the terminal port summary on maintenance works including the marine buoys at intake and discharge area.
Based on the location of their inlet structure, open intakes are typically classified as onshore and offshore. The inlet structure of onshore intakes is constructed on the banks of the source water body, while the inlet structure of offshore intakes is typically located several hundred to several thousand meters away from the shore.
Intakes have found application mainly for very large thermal or hybrid seawater cooling plants. Such intakes typically consist of large and deep intake canal ending into a concrete fore-bay structure equipped with coarse bar screens followed by fine screens and intake pump station.
Key factors that determine the selection of the location of open intakes are potential for beach erosion in the intake area, location and direction of underwater currents, presence and location of active seismic faults, topography and geology of the floor of the water body, location of environmentally sensitive habitats in the along the intake pipe route and near the intake inlet, location and size of municipal and industrial wastewater discharges within 1 km (0.6 miles) radius from the intake, size of waves and depth of wave impacts, ship and boat traffic, tide and wind characteristics in the intake area.
The proper operation of open sea intakes requires the collection of detailed source water quality data from the proposed site of the intake, characterization of aquatic life in the vicinity of the intake. FDC-MPC recognize the importance of safety in all facets of it's operations, and it's intake structure has been seriously considered. Taken into account the age and environmental factors, also logistics operation of the structure, a comprehensive operation on inspection was undertaken.
Scope of Work | 18 July 2024
Underwater and Offshore pipeline and catholic protection maintenance.
Marine Buoy | Intake Head
♦ Underwater cleaning from marine growth in the buoy and chain link.
♦ Underwater manual cutting of chain and installation of new chain link of the buoy.
♦ Provide supply of chain link for replacement, and repair and re-installation of buoy lantern.
♦ GPS reading of marine buoy location.
♦ Video clips of the repair installation activities.
Marine Buoy | Discharge Area
♦ Fabrication of new sinker and installation for proper location underwater.
♦ Underwater connection of chain link.
Conclusion
Marine Buoy intake area has been repaired. The worn out chain link was replaced with new chain link including the swivel part of the buoy.
Marine Buoy discharge area has been installed with new sets of sinkers and securely connected with shackles.
